Brabham Signs Up For Triple TUDOR Championship NAEC Campaign With ESM

David Brabham has signed up to return to the Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) fold to contest three of four North American Endurance Championship (NAEC) events within the new TUDOR United Sportscar Championship in 2014.

The double American Le Mans Series titleholder will rejoin his 2009 co-Champion and team owner/driver Scott Sharp in the Tequila Patrón HPD prototype for the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans. Scotsman and 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 winner, Ryan Dalziel completes the stellar No.1 car line-up.

Confirmation of Brabham’s 2014 seat with the Florida-based outfit comes following his stirling Petit Le Mans drive last month, which sealed an astounding American Le Mans Series career with P2 pole and second in class for ESM Tequila Patrón.

As the ALMS drew to a close after 14 years, Brabham can be credited as one of the most successful drivers in series history. With two championship titles, 24 race wins, 62 class podiums and 14 pole positions in 105 ALMS starts since 1999, he is the only driver to boast pole positions and wins across LMP1, LMP2, GT1 and GT2.

The dawn of the new TUDOR United SportsCar Championship opens yet another new and exciting chapter in the Australian’s 30-year strong career.

“It wasn’t a hard decision to say ‘yes’ to ESM for these races, I really enjoyed my time with the team at Sebring and Petit this year, and next year is a new beginning. The timing of the three races is perfect, as they don’t clash with anything else for next season it leaves my options open.

“With a new championship being born, there is a lot of optimism that this will become a great series, so it will be pretty cool to do the first race in this new chapter. It is nice for me to be able to compete at Daytona again, as the last time I raced there was 2003 where I won the first DP race with Multimatic.

“I look forward to continuing to work with Scott, as we seem to do pretty well together, plus to work with Ryan for the first time is exciting. He knows these cars well and is a proven winner, so the three of us will be very strong. The ESM/Patrón team is awesome to work with and I look forward to getting some wins and the early points haul for a strong start to the season.”

Brabham will kick off his 2014 campaign and get to grips with the HPD ARX-03b LMP2 at the Roar Before the Rolex 24, 3-5 January, ahead of the 52nd running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona on 25-26 January.
