Matthew Brabham Shows Speed In New Orleans Testing
Third generation driver Matthew Brabham concluded the first leg of the Cooper Tires Winterfest official test, with the second fastest time at the NOLA Motorsports Park in New Orleans, LA.
Held over two days, the Andretti Autosport / MAZDASPEED / United Fiber and Data racer continually traded top spot with 2013 Indy Lights runner up Gabby Chaves, only to miss out by 0.020 sec in an exciting two way battle.
Brabham was encouraged by his performance over the last two days, and sees it as a springboard to challenge for the Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires title this season.
“It was another good day. I think we proved that we definitely have the pace to fight for the first couple positions,” Matthew said. “We were in the top two every single session, so I definitely think we have a lot of speed. At the same time, we still have a little work to do and a lot of changes to make. We’ll keep working hard at it... focusing on St. Petersburg. Overall I’m very pleased at how it all went. The United Fiber & Data/MAZDASPEED guys are working really hard and doing a great job, and I think all the hard work is definitely showing.”
All the teams now head to Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham AL, for two days of testing on Tuesday and Wednesday February 25th/26th. The Barber test will be the litmus test, as the track will host round three of the championship.
