Matthew Brabham On Top At Barber Test

Matthew Brabham finished top of the timesheets at the conclusion of the Coopers Tires Winterfest Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires series test at the undulating Barber Motorsports Park Circuit, AL.

Brabham, who is seeking to become the first driver ever to win all three steps on the Mazda Road to Indy in consecutive seasons, showed impressive speed as he builds momentum towards challenging for the Indy Lights title. The recently turned 20 year-old led the field in Alabama by three tenths of a second from Gabby Chaves with a best time of 1:15.160.

Despite battling extremely cold conditions the Andretti Autosport/MAZDASPEED/United Fibre & Data team made good progress working through their test program, and look forward to being very competitive at the first race in St Petersburg on March 30th.

"After the four full days of testing, I'm coming out of this test a lot more confident than I was going in, that's for sure", a happy Brabham said after the test. "I think we proved that we definitely have the pace to run up front, and we've been running in the top-two positions time-wise in nearly every single session.

“I'm really confident and very happy how the team's working; they've done an awesome job and I can't thank the United Fiber & Data/MAZDASPEED guys enough. I'm really looking forward to the first race in St. Pete. It's going to be really interesting to see where everyone ends up when testing's finished and we get to the first race, but so far so good for us."
